What to Expect
Our basic dance program is perfect for just about anyone. Whether you are learning to dance for a wedding, a special event, starting a new hobby or just looking for fun and exercise, our beginner dance program is for you! If you do have prior experience, your team of dance instructors may decide to have you skip the beginner program and start at a level more appropriate for you.
In the beginner program, you’ll start learning ballroom from the ground up. This is an exciting time in your dancing because everything is new and you are creating a foundation for your dance experience. The majority of all ballroom dancing leans on these core principles. Once you master them, you’ll be fully prepared to tackle more intricate dancing. The three main things you’ll focus on in the introductory program include:
- Basic patterns
- Rhythm and timing
- Leading or following
Ballroom dancing is typically partner dancing. However, don’t worry if you are learning to dance on your own. There is always someone to partner with in our group classes and at our practice parties. And a member of our team of instructors will be dancing with you during your personal lesson. Learning to communicate effectively on the dance floor is one of the most rewarding elements of ballroom dancing. As a beginner, it’s important to learn to dance in sync with a partner. And even if you’ve danced before, but have never danced with a partner, it’s normal for this to take some getting used to. Throughout your program, your team of instructors will constantly tailor your lessons to match you and your goals. You will always be free to learn at your own pace.
On to the Next Level
After a few weeks of learning the basics, you’ll be ready to move on to the next level. Time flies when you’re having fun, and before you know it, you’ll be dancing like you never thought you’d be able to. After the Basic Introductory Program, there are four more skill levels. In order, the program levels are:
- Basic Introductory
- Associate Bronze
- Full Bronze
Once you’ve completed the basic dance program, you’ll be ready for the Associate Bronze level. At this point, you’ll already have a solid understanding of basic patterns and rhythms, so you’ll be able to concentrate on learning material that’s a little more advanced. From there, the possibilities are endless, and many new students go on to become serious hobbyists and even competitive dancers.
